What's a Blog and What's a News Reader Anyway?

What you are reading is a blog. At its most basic, a blog is a chronologically organized web site. But it's more than that too. It's also a resource to increase your current awareness. By reading this blog, you will learn more about online resources available for researching legal issues as well as new material available in Pierce Law Library. I try to include up to date information on online searching especially advanced searching.

A news reader, sometimes called an aggregator, is software that reads blogs and displays the information in a somewhat coherent format. Some aggregators are only available online while others you maintain on your desktop. For example, I can scan the headlines of the blogs I follow and click on a link to read the entry for more information. It takes only a few minutes a day and I can keep current on legal research issues that I pass on to you.

The blog Loose Wire has a directory of RSS Readers with a brief explanation. http://loosewire.typepad.com/blog/2004/08/a_directory_of_.html

One reader not on this list is the one I use, Macromedia Central, which aggregates ATOM feeds from Blogger. Download free here http://www.macromedia.com/software/central/.
