Library Etiquette

The library is a shared facility and mutual consideration is critical to mutual benefit. The following policies have been drafted with this in mind. We thank you for treating the books, microforms, cassettes, videotapes, equipment, furnishings, and one another with consideration and respect.

FOOD and BEVERAGES

Except for wrapped candies offered by the staff at special times, food is not permitted in the Library.

Spilled beverages and scattered food crumbs not only attract insects, but also create unpleasant working conditions and damage library materials and furnishings. The rustling and crumpling of packaging is disturbing to other library users. Therefore food is prohibited in all areas of the library.

Beverages in non-spill travel mug type containers, paper or Styrofoam cups with snap or screw on lids are allowed in the library. Please be sure to empty all liquid from paper or Styrofoam containers before discarding them. Aluminum cans are not acceptable.

Kindly respect your fellow students and other library patrons by adhering to the food and beverage policy.

SHELVING BOOKS

Nothing is more frustrating to the researcher than to terminate a search for materials by finding a suspicious gap on the shelf. Please carefully shelve the volumes you use.

CELL PHONES

Please turn cell phones off or switch them to vibrate rather than ring when you enter the Library. If you must answer or make a call, do so outside the Library and not in the hallway or stairwell.
